Central Jakarta Vice Mayor, Irwandi expressed it was aimed at minimizing flooding in the rainy season.

"Besides big rivers, small water channels in residential areas are also our focus," he expressed.

In the action, he was still detecting some buildings stood atop the channel. They should be dismantled in order to make the environment cleaner.

"We want all people to maintain cleanliness by not littering. The channel must be clean thus the water flows smoothly," he said.

Kartini Urban Village Head, Ati Mediana added the cleanup involved around 80 joint personnel who consisted of Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency, Environment (LH) Sub-agency, Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-agency, sub-district, urban village to PPSU.

According to her, this year, there had been a lot of normalization and draining of the channel in Kartini area.

"Hopefully what we are doing today can minimize flooding," she hoped.
